Hospitals are now equipped with state-of-the-art tools that can be used to improve their operations. Some of these tools include the software applications which are commonly used to automate the complex processes in hospitals. One of the most important processes that can be observed from the hospital is the billing. Medical billing is not a simple job. When it is done manually, it involves lots of tasks. In most cases, it takes time to accomplish medical billing with the manual or traditional process. Nowadays, there are medical billing software applications which are developed to automate the process of generating bills and other accompanying documents such as statement of accounts or SOAs. Such applications can also be used to generate medical reports.

The problem that can be drawn from the manual process is that the personal health information and personal details of the patients are not protected. In fact, they are exposed to anyone who has access to the records of the hospitals. However, with the medical software applications, the personal details of the patients are being protected. The access to information with such software applications is limited only to authorize people. Some of the information and personal details that can be protected with the use of such software application are the following: name, important dates, telephone numbers, social security records, medical accounts, insurance coverage, treatment progress reports, nurses’ records and observations, physician notes and diagnosis, results of regular checkup, license numbers, and even photographs. These details can be securely stored in a password protected database. Hence, only the authorize people can have an access to the confidential information of the patients.
